HELSINKI - The world's top cellphone maker Nokia Oyj cut its profit outlook as it battles to compete in the fast-growing high end of the market, and delayed the launch of models to challenge the iPhone and BlackBerry.
Nokia on Tuesday announced that the N8, its first smartphone based on the Symbian 3 OS, will be out in the third quarter. The Finnish company has promised Symbian 3 phones will be easier to use than their predecessors. The N8 will be the first in a family of smartphones based on Symbian 3 that will be out in 2010, according to Nokia.
Bloomberg (via BusinessWeek) reports that Google's Android alliance is showing signs of strain. Although more than 60,000 Android-based mobile phones are sold and activated each day, there is now an obvious shift within partners to steer away from Google's mobile OS... or at least, place the main focus on a variety of options.
